FAQS

  • At 10th Planet Barcelona, we practice a non-traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system. We train exclusively No-Gi (without kimono), which means grips and techniques focus on body control and positioning rather than fabric. Our emphasis on unorthodox positions, leg locks, and the Rubber Guard system differentiates us from traditional academies.

  • Absolutely! We recently adapted an area with free weights where you can do classic weightlifting, strength and conditioning, and cross-training. Physical conditioning is a fundamental basis for progress in our sport. We all start from zero and we're happy to help you with these workouts too.

  • Yes! We have a lobby area, specialty coffee service, and 5G WiFi throughout the entire gym.

  • Safety is our top priority. As a beginner, you'll learn at your own pace with controlled drilling before any live sparring. Our coaches emphasize proper technique and our community has a strong culture of taking care of training partners. Jiu Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts when practiced correctly, and we maintain an ego-free environment.Item description

  • That's the beauty of Jiu Jitsu - it's designed for smaller, weaker people to overcome larger, stronger opponents using technique and leverage. We have students of all ages (from kids to 50+), sizes, and athletic backgrounds. The art adapts to you, not the other way around.

  • Totally normal! Every single person on our mats felt that way at first. Our coaches and experienced students are here to help. Don't hesitate to ask questions we were all beginners once. The community is incredibly supportive and we want you to succeed.

  • Street parking is available in the Gracia neighborhood. We also highly recommend using public transportation we're easily accessible by metro (Diagonal station, L3/L5) and bus (line 24).

  • Classes typically include:

Warm-up (10-15 min): Movement drills and conditioning

Technique instruction (20-30 min): Coach demonstrates, students drill

Live rolling/sparring (15-20 min): Optional for beginners - you can watch until comfortable

    Cool down and questions

  • It depends on the injury or condition. We recommend consulting with your doctor first. Our coaches can modify techniques to accommodate certain limitations, but your safety and health come first. Let us know during your trial class and we'll work with you.

  • Many of our students compete in No-Gi tournaments, but it's 100% optional. Whether you train for fitness, self-defense, competition, or just for fun you're equally welcome here. We support all goals.

  • In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, progression through the ranks depends on multiple factors: your skill level, technical progress, mat time, age, and whether you compete. There's no fixed timeline - everyone's journey is unique. Your coach evaluates your development holistically and promotes you when you're ready. Remember, Jiu Jitsu is a marathon, not a sprint. Focus on learning and improving, and the ranks will come naturally as you grow.

  • You'll arrive 10-15 minutes early to meet our reception team and get a quick tour. We'll show you the changing rooms, explain mat etiquette, and introduce you to the coach. The class starts with a warm-up, followed by technique instruction where the coach demonstrates step-by-step. You'll drill with a partner (we'll pair you with someone experienced and friendly), and optionally watch live rolling at the end. No pressure just learning.

  • Of course! You're welcome to come observe a class to get a feel for the environment and teaching style. Just contact us to arrange a visit. However, most people find that jumping in for a trial class is the best way to truly experience what we offer.

  • Our kids program welcomes children from ages 5-14. We have age-appropriate groups to ensure everyone learns in a safe, fun environment with peers at similar developmental stages.

  • We recommend 2-3 times per week to start. This gives your body time to recover while building consistency and muscle memory. As you progress and your body adapts, you can train more frequently. Many of our students train 4-6 times per week.

  • Pack light: a tight-fitting t-shirt (compression-style if possible), shorts without pockets or zippers (which could catch or injure you or your training partner), flip-flops for off the mats, and a towel. We provide free antibacterial soap in the showers.

  • Not at all! Jiu Jitsu will get you in shape. We welcome all fitness levels - from complete beginners to athletes. Our coaches will help you progress at your own pace, and you can take breaks whenever needed during class.
